Dr. Gene B. Blackwell, age 85 of Carlton, TX and formerly of Childress, died Thursday, May 11, in Hamilton, TX.

He was born in Kent County to Floyd and Iris May McGlothlin Blackwell.

Gene and Jane Knight Blackwell were married on September 12, 1953 in Bellevue, TX.

They had moved to the area in 1987 after retiring from his Optometrist Practice in Childress. After moving to the area he continued to practice Optometry until 1995 with the Texas Department of Correctional Justice in Gatesville. He was also rancher in this...

He was born in Kent County to Floyd and Iris May McGlothlin Blackwell.

Gene and Jane Knight Blackwell were married on September 12, 1953 in Bellevue, TX.

They had moved to the area in 1987 after retiring from his Optometrist Practice in Childress. After moving to the area he continued to practice Optometry until 1995 with the Texas Department of Correctional Justice in Gatesville. He was also rancher in this area.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who showed values and integrity in all aspects of his life and always placed other's needs before his own.

He attended and was very active in both the First United Methodist Churches in Childress and Hamilton.

Survivors include his beloved Wife of 63 years Jane Knight Blackwell; Son Robert and wife Merry Blackwell of Palestine; grandchildren Kelly and husband Steve Martel, James Harper Blackwell, and Carmen and husband Phil Morley and great grandchildren Timothy Harper, Emma Marie, Joshua Gene and Merrell Jane Morley; Daughter Debbie and husband Lynn Bryant of Tyler; grandchildren Stephen Bryant, and Merrell and husband Mark Olsen; and great grandchildren Gwyneth Lynn Olsen and Wesley Gene Olsen; and Daughter Brenda and husband Gary Shelton of San Antonio; grandchildren Brooke and husband David Lindholm, Heather and husband Joshua Hull and Kara Shelton.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Hamilton, TX with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery.

Riley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
